What happens if I lose my data or the hard drive crashes?

Complete Composers Collection 2 Professional comes on a Buffalo DriveStation 2TB USB 3 (with USB 2 compatibility) external hard drive. The supplied hard drive is subject to change without notice. In the event a replacement drive becomes necessary we will replace the data at any time.

Buffalo DriveStation specifications.

What are the system requirements for the supplied external hard drive?

To obtain satisfactory performance from the supplied hard drive a USB 3 compatible computer is required. If your computer does not have a USB 3 connection, you can use the USB 2 connection supplied with the hard drive to copy the data to another (non energy saving) internal hard drive of at least 7200rpm; or external hard drive of at least 7200rpm that has a Firewire 800 (not 400) connection or faster, and use the supplied hard drive for backup. USB 2 is too slow to stream ultra detailed virtual instruments as are contained in this collection, resulting in poor performance (pops/clicks/dropouts etc. Check the system requirements for each product chosen to make sure your system meets or exceeds the system requirements for the Diamond and Platinum versions of these products, otherwise we recommend you order the standard CCC2 with Gold Editions HERE.

Can a USB 2 computer be upgraded to USB 3?

If your computer has an ExpressCard slot, you can purchase a USB 3 ExpressCard HERE. If you have a tower system you can purchase a USB 3 PCIe Card HERE.

This is my first EastWest purchase, where can I purchase the iLok security key?

You will be prompted at the Shopping Cart page for an iLok2. Only one iLok security key is required for all of your EastWest products. One of the major benefits of iLok is portability. The iLok security key provides access to the entire collection, so you can plug in the USB 3 hard drive and iLok key into any computer in any location for convenience.

Please contact Sales, or Technical Support if you require any further assistance.

The Hard Drive Supplied and System Requirements

IMPORTANT: Complete Composers Collection 2 Professional is supplied on a Buffalo DriveStation 2TB USB 3 (with USB 2 compatibility) external hard drive. The hard drive is subject to change without notice.

Buffalo DriveStation specifications.

To obtain satisfactory performance from the supplied hard drive a USB 3 compatible computer is required. If your computer does not have a USB 3 connection, you can use the USB 2 connection supplied with the hard drive to copy the data to another (non energy saving) internal hard drive of at least 7200rpm, or external drive of at least 7200rpm that has a Firewire 800 (not 400) connection or faster, and use the supplied hard drive for backup. USB 2 is too slow to stream these ultra detailed virtual instruments, and may result in poor performance (pops/clicks/dropouts etc.).

IMPORTANT: When shutting down your computer, eject the external hard drive first or you could lose data and/or damage the hard drive.

Please check the required system specifications for each of the products selected to ensure compatibility and optimum performance.

Can a USB 2 computer be upgraded to USB 3?

If your computer has an ExpressCard slot, you can purchase a USB 3 ExpressCard HERE. If you have a tower system you can purchase a USB 3 PCIe Card HERE.

Installation

Simply remove the hard drive, the power cable, and the USB cable from the box and plug the power cable into a wall outlet and the USB cable into a USB 3 port on your computer, turn on the hard drive power and you are ready to install and authorize the PLAY software.

The sound libraries I am interested in purchasing would need more space than I can fit on my computer’s hard drive. Is it possible to use the libraries by having the external hard drive connected to a USB 3.0 port?

With a proper USB3 (not USB 2) connection most products can be run off of that external drive. For the more demanding collections such as Hollywood Strings, some of that product requires a SSD drive, the specific information is published on the product page under system requirements, and SSD drives in general both speed up load times and offer vastly superior performance but cost more. The 1.26TB of data is for everything you could possibly choose, all 21 products. Most customers choose 7 products so the actual data for that selection is usually a quarter to a third depending on the selection. You can either leave the other data on the drive so you can license additional collections later online, or erase the unused data.

First Time Users

The hard drive comes in the format that you ordered it in, so make sure to run the installer that corresponds to your operating system (Mac OS X, Windows 32-bit, or Windows 64-bit), located on the root level of the hard drive (if you copied the drive contents then go to the folder you copied it to).

IMPORTANT: When running the installer make sure you "check the check box for each product and version of that product, you ordered" in the product list page. Once the installer finishes your web browser will be launched to http://www.soundsonline.com/Support where you will download and install the latest version of the PLAY software.

Existing Users

Locate the installer folder on the root level of the hard drive. Make sure to run the installer that corresponds to your operating system (Mac OS X, Windows 32-bit, or Windows 64-bit) and run the installer to determine if you have the latest version of the PLAY software on your computer.

If you have an older PLAY version, then the installer will launch your web browser to http://www.soundsonline.com/Support in order to download the latest version. Once you have the latest version of the PLAY software installed, you are ready to authorize your libraries.

iLok and Authorization Code

The authorization codes (for each product you ordered) are emailed separate to your order receipt (check your spam folder if they don't arrive with one hour). If you do not receive the authorization codes please contact licensing@eastwestsounds.com with your order details. Please do not lose the authorization codes email, print it out so you have the codes available when the hard drive arrives.

After running the installer, navigate to the East West folder in Program Files (in Windows) and Applications Folder (in OS X), then locate and open the Authorization Wizard.

Type in your soundsonline user name, password, and authorization code. You will need to do this for each product. At the end of the process, the licenses will be deposited into your iLok account where you will go to download the licenses to your iLok security key that you already own, or purchased with this product. Once the licenses are successfully downloaded to the iLok key, you can start making music. One of the major benefits of iLok is portability. The iLok security key provides access to the entire collection, so you can plug in the USB 3 hard drive and iLok key into any computer in any location.

If you do not yet have a soundsonline account, create an account here.

Loading Your First Instrument

Launch the PLAY software (standalone, or preferably as a plugin in your favorite Audio Sequencer or DAW); go to the "Browser" view. In the lower left "Favorites" panel, you will see the library entries, click on one and you will see a list of instruments appear in the columns to the right.

Click on an item ending in .ewi to select the instrument, then click on the Add button, or you can simply double-click on the .ewi file to load the instrument and you are ready to make some music.

Manual and Documentation

There is a folder called "Documentation" in the root level of the drive which contains the manual and quick guides for PLAY.
