What happens if I lose my data or the hard drive crashes?

Complete Composers Collection comes on a Western Digital Caviar Blue WD10EALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (subject to change without notice). The Western Digital Caviar Blue hard drive is suitable for using the content, however, as hard drives can fail, we recommend you make a backup of the data on another hard drive (it does not have to be as high performance as the supplied hard drive, it's simply for back up). In the event a replacement drive becomes necessary, however, we will replace the data at any time.

Please contact Technical Support if you require any assistance.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ FIRST!!

COMPLETE COMPOSERS COLLECTION - HARD DRIVE
INSTALLATION and SETUP GUIDE

IMPORTANT - PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE YOUR SOFTWARE TO THE LATEST VERSION ONLINE "AFTER INSTALLATION"

1. How do I install the software?

The software can be installed by double-clicking on the icon with "installer" in the name from the root level of the CCC Drive. Make sure to run the installer that corresponds to your operating system (Mac OS X, Windows 32-bit, or Windows 64-bit). The samples folders are already contained on this hard drive, so installation will be a quick process.

2. Do I need to install the samples?

The samples are already installed on the CCC Drive, and the installer will install the software components you need to begin using PLAY immediately. Should you want to, you can move the individual products to another drive after installation. See section 9 below for precise instructions. However, the included Hard Drive is a high performance drive, and will be sufficient to stream the samples directly off of. For best performance we highly recommend using the drive directly inside your computer with a SATA connection, rather then using the drive in an external enclosure. For laptops we recommend using the fastest connection possible if using this in an external enclosure (eSata or FW800 if possible).

3. Where is the documentation on the Complete Composers Collection Drive?

There is a folder called "Documentation" in the root level of the CCC drive that contains all manuals and quick guides for PLAY and the included products. This also gets installed with the software in your Program Files (in Windows) or Applications (in OS X) folders of your system drive. The documentation is in PDF format, and ready for printing at home or your local copy shop if necessary.

Also included with the PLAY 2 System manual and your product specific manual is the 'EW PLAY Quick Guide' for a quick tutorial in using the EastWest PLAY software included with the CCC Drive.

4. How do I get Adobe Reader, and do I need it?

If you use Windows, PDF files can be viewed in a free application called Adobe Acrobat Reader

If you use Mac OS X, the Preview application can read our PDF documentation. Simply double-click on any of the documentation files and preview will open.

5. How do I authorize the software?

After installing, the Authorization Wizard can be used to authorize the software. This is located in your East West folder in Program Files (in Windows) and Applications Folder (in OS X). Type in your soundsonline user name, password, and authorization code found on your Authorization Codes sheet included with the CCC. If you do not yet have a soundsonline account, create an account now. Further information can be found in the Play System Manual in the Documentation folder.

6. Where is my authorization code?

The authorization codes (for each product you've configured your CCC Drive with) will be provided in your order invoice that is e-mailed to you, or supplied to you by your EastWest dealer directly.

7. How do I get my first updates?

If your computer is connected to the internet, use the "Check For Updates" link from the main menu in PLAY. If you are running the standalone application, this check will occur automatically every time PLAY is opened. If your computer is not connected to the internet, go to a machine which is, and check the PLAY Update Center.

8. How do I load my first instrument?

Click on the button in the top row of PLAY called "browser." Then, select the product in the Favorites window. A list of instruments will appear in the columns to the*right. Click on an item ending in .ewi to select the instrument, then click on the Add button, or you can simply double-click on the .ewi file to load the instrument. Some product instruments have a choice between elements.ewi and master.ewi. Elements, ewi contain single articulations which require less computer resources than master.ewi which loads all articulations.

9. How do I use the products on a different hard drive?

If you wish to transfer any of the products to another hard drive, simply drag and drop the product folder from the CCC Drive to the desired destination. Once you have moved the product over, launch PLAY and go to the Browser view, and then the Favorites window. Here right click (or "control" click on Mac) on the product name and select 'Set Product Library Directory'. A dialog will appear and from here select the Instruments folder of the product that was moved.

10. Other than the manual (which contains IMPORTANT information), where can I find other PLAY information?

Our technical support knowledgebase will answer most of your questions 24/7 and can be found here. See the Submit a Ticket section at that same page to contact a Technical Support representative directly.
