ComposerCloud Tip #1: Audition and Download Individual Instruments

With Opus, you can now audition instruments without having to load them. And you can download individual instruments instead of entire collections. A real time saver!

For this tip, let’s use the Audition/Download feature to add instruments and create a trailer music sound. First add Epic Celli shorts from Hollywood Orchestra Opis Edition and The Lord of Toms Ensemble from Stormdrum 3 for some great low-end punch.

Then we need to add brass. Use the 6 French Horn patch for that larger than life brass sound, they pair great with the new 2 Trombone patch as well.

Finally let’s add choir - again, you can now download only the patch you want if you don’t have the library installed.

Combine the massive sound of Hollywood Choirs and Hollywood Brass for that classic trailer sound, with Hollywood Strings and Stormdrum 2 and 3 providing the rhythm.

All of these instruments are available in your ComposerCloud subscription!

ComposerCloud Tip #2: Feature the Two New Trombones from Hollywood Orchestra

Let's create an action adventure score using the two new trombones from Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition!

First, load the new 2 trombones key switch patch for that classic Hollywood sound and use multiple articulations for maximum realism.

Bring in some string and woodwind shorts and let the two trombones take the melody.

Then let them sit back and provide the chord and rhythm structure for the strings, woodwinds, and French horns.

Give the trombones a break and let the orchestra breathe a bit, then bring the trombones back in to swell into the next section.

Use brass and choir sustains to build the chord and provide rhythm with strings and percussion.

Punctuate the string and woodwind runs with brass stabs.

Let the trombones take the chord and the trumpet and French horn alternate the melody. Then bring in orchestra and choir.

Use trill and tremolo articulations in the strings and woodwinds while the brass sections trade off the melody.

ComposerCloud Tip #3: Feature Ensembles from Hollywood Orchestrator

Now let's create a cinematic adventure using the Ensembles presets from Hollywood Orchestrator!

Start with the spiccato strings and tonal percussion, then add brass sustains to swell into the next phrase.

Let the woodwinds take over the ostinato line and play chords with the sustain strings, then bring in percussion.

Let brass sustains fill out the chord, introduce a melody in the legato strings and woodwinds, then have choir join the brass.

Switch over to the shorts across all sections, then bring in string and brass sustains to help develop the phrase.

Use brass, strings, and percussion ensemble hits to swell into the next part.

Introduce an ostinato line in the strings, woodwinds, and tonal percussion, with brass and choir sustains filling out the chord.

Use the Mystique preset to fill out the chord and the legato strings to play melody, then use brass to swell into the climax.

All of these instruments are available in your ComposerCloud subscription!

ComposerCloud Tip #6: Feature Ostinatos from Hollywood Orchestrator

Let's create a quirky dark comedy with some of the Ostinato presets from Hollywood Orchestrator!

00:05 - Begin with the “Ostinatos - Triplets 07” preset and play a simple chord, then start a melody using string and woodwind shorts.

00:11 - Change to a slightly more intense ostinato preset (Triplets 01) and double the melody an octave above in the violins and trumpets.

00:17 - Switch to another ostinato preset and trade off the melody between French horns and low brass.

00:23 - Introduce a different ostinato pattern and build into the next section using full orchestra, starting with strings and woodwinds.

00:28 - Revert to the first ostinato pattern and introduce a melody in the legato violins, doubled with the solo soprano from Voices of Opera.

00:35 - Use woodwind runs, choir sustains, and brass to keep things interesting between phrases in the melody.

00:42 - Pass the melody off to the violas and the celli, with the French horns providing counter-melody, then introduce trumpets in the 2nd half of the phrase.

00:49 - Switch to a 16th note pattern to build into the climax and end with full orchestra on a series of alternating shorts - don’t forget the crash!
